CAPE TOWN - The Cape Bar says its transformation strategy reflects a commitment to promote black female practitioners in particular.
The bar is at the centre of a row involving lobby group, Advocates for Transformation (AFT).
The group will push to have the Cape Bar expelled from the General Council of the Bar during a meeting this weekend.
The group is calling for organisational representation on the Cape Bar council.
It wants the bar to amend its constitution to ensure 50% of the council is nominated by AFT members.
The group's Western Cape chairperson Gregory Papier said: "Over the years, the 50% black members that used to make the council, did not represent the majority of the black members at the Cape Bar."
Up until recently, the Cape Bar's Council has included AFT members.
But according to the bar's chairperson, Tanya Golden, that changed when several advocates resigned from the group during a fallout last year.
